Charles D. “Charlie” Farr, 89, Hays, died Saturday, December 3, 2016 at his home.

He was born March 9, 1927 on the family farm seven miles west of Stockton, the middle child of Roy and Ellen (Look) Farr.  He was a graduate of Stockton High School and joined the U.S. Navy his senior year and went on to serve with the U.S. Navy during the end of World War II.  On August 28, 1949 he married Darlene B. Buss at the Methodist Church in Stockton.  He worked for the State of Kansas and in 1951 he started working for Lane Wells, where he would remain employed for the next 23 years.  He worked for Great Guns for three years, and then went on to work at Liberty Enterprises for the next 30 years.  He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the Masonic Lodge, was a life member of the Stockton VFW, and was a founding member of the Thursday morning coffee club that met at Daylight Donuts.  Charlie loved to hunt and fish, collect barb wire, and take drives to check his wells and the family farm.

Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Darlene, of the home, two daughters; Karol Chaffee and Jerry Wilson of WaKeeney, and Cindy Farr of Ogallah, a brother; Donald Farr and wife Georgia of Stockton, a step-brother; Gordon McCauley of Hays,  two grandsons; Brent Chaffee and Neal Chaffee, and nieces and nephews; Linda Ballard, Sharon Gutierrez, Kenneth Burge, and Steven Farr.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a son; Charles Alan Farr, and a sister and her husband; Margaret and Charlie Burge.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 6, 2016 at the First United Methodist Church, 305 W. 7th Street.  Inurnment with military honors by the Hays VFW Honor Guard and the Hays American Legion Riders will be in the Mt. Allen Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 1:00 until service time on Tuesday at the church.  Memorials are suggested in Charlie’s memory to the First United Methodist Church or to the Hays VFW Honor Guard, in care of the Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, 1906 Pine Street.  Condolences may be left for the family at www.haysmemorial.com
