Marilyn M. Thyfault

Marilyn M. Thyfault, 77, Hays, died Wednesday, September 21, 2016 at Via Christi Village in Hays.

She was born October 6, 1938 in Hays the daughter of Roy and Gladys (Van Syoc) Shook.  On June 1, 1957 she married James J. Thyfault in Damar, Kansas.  She was a farm wife and mother of six children.  After moving to Hays in 1990, she was a cook at USave Foods, Hadley Medical Center, and FHSU.  She was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, the Daughters of Isabella, an Associate of the Sisters of St. Agnes, and a member of the Perpetual Adorers and To Jesus Through Mary prayer group.  She was a lector and Eucharistic minister at her church for many years and was co-chairman of the Mary Elizabeth Maternity Home.

She loved having family home for the Holidays.  Cooking, baking, and decorating made her so happy.  She never knew a stranger and was always happy to invite others to come spend time and eat with the family.  Playing cards and dominos with her grandchildren always made her day.  She had a contagious smile and was so understanding and non-judgmental.  She prayed her rosary every day.

To honor and cherish her many acts of love, friendship, and devotions are, her husband James, of Hays, three daughters; Pam Rudman and husband Ron of Palco, Laurie Allen of Hays, and Angela Brand and husband Olivier of Park City, Utah, two sons; Greg Thyfault of Hays and Daniel Thyfault and wife Rhonda of Hill City, a son-in-law Ron Haselhorst of Lindenhurst, IL, sixteen grandchildren; Rachel, Tara, Clayton, Chet (Sarah), Jacob (Becca), Dominic (Nikki), Patrick, Betsy, Jasmine, Landon, Cody, Jessica (Tucker), Sarah, Andy, Jake, and Luc, six great grandchildren; Callie, Derrick, Jacob, Georgia, Lola, and Gus, a brother-in-law; Donald “Skeet” Clemensen, two step sisters; Helen and Florence, and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, step father Henry VanLoenen, in laws George and Irene Thyfault, a brother John Shook and wife Ardis, two sisters; Bonnie Clemensen, and Anita Arnold and husband Darold, step brothers; Roy, Dale, and Lynn, a step sister; Mary Lee, a daughter; Christel Haselhorst, and grandbabies Andrew Rudman, Michael Thyfault and Joshua Brand.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 am on Saturday, September 24, 2016 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 1805 Vine Street.  Burial will follow in the St. Joseph Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 4:00 pm until 8:00 on Friday, and from 9:00 am until 9:45 on Saturday, all at the Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, 1906 Pine Street.  A Perpetual Adorers rosary will be at 4:00 pm, an Associate Sisters of St. Agnes service will be a 5:00 pm, followed by a Daughters of Isabella rosary at 6:00 pm and a parish vigil service at 6:30 pm, all on Friday at the funeral home.  Memorials are suggested to the Mary Elizabeth Maternity Home, in care of the funeral home.  Condolences may be left for the family at www.haysmemorial.com or via email at haysmemorialchapel@gmail.com
