Norbert Joseph Bollig

Norbert Joseph Bollig, 93, Hays, died Saturday, February 7, 2015 at the Good Samaritan Society, Hays.

He was born May 17, 1921 on the family farm North of Ellis, Kansas the son of Jacob and Anna Marie (Graf) Bollig.  On June 24, 1947 he married Margie M. Fahey in Ellis, Kansas.  He was a 1941 graduate and drum major of Trego Community High School and was a U.S. Army veteran of WW II.  He was a truck driver in the oil field and for DOW Chemical for many years.  He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, the Third Degree Knights of Columbus Council #1325, the Bishop Cunningham Assembly Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus, the Hays VFW Post #9076, and the Hays American Legion Post #173.  He loved going to auctions, square dancing, enjoyed computers and CB radios, was very patriotic and was a former adjutant and chaplain with the VFW and American Legion, and loved to spend time with his family and grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, of the home, three sons, Robert “Bob” Bollig and wife JoAnn of Fairfax, VA, Mick Bollig and wife Suzanne of Hays, Keith Bollig and wife Jennifer of Chicago, IL, three daughters, Sharon Pfeifer and husband Ken of Phoenix, AZ, Glenda Pfaff and husband Randy of Russell, KS, and Rhonda Baker and husband Lyle of Hays, a daughter in law, Josie Gallegos of Ft. Collins, CO,  a brother Julius Bollig and wife Christine of Wakeeney, two sisters, Loretta Billinger of Wakeeney and Armella Mangels and husband Van of Liberal, KS, fourteen grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren.  

He was preceded in death by his parents, a step father Mike Pfeifer, a son Dennis Bollig, two brothers, William “Bill” Bollig and Rudolph “Rudy” Bollig, a sister Mary Kroeger and a granddaughter Erica Rae Bollig.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 am on Thursday, February 12, 2015 at the St. Joseph Catholic Church, 210 W. 13th.  Burial with military honors by the Hays VFW and American Legion will be at 2:00 pm at the Kansas Veterans Cemetery, Wakeeney, KS.  Visitation will be from 4:00 until 8:00 pm on Wednesday and from 9:00 am until 10:15 on Thursday, all at the Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, 1906 Pine.  The Bishop Cunningham Assembly Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus will stand honor guard from 5:30 until 6:30 pm on Wednesday at the funeral home.  A parish vigil service will be at 6:30 pm followed by a combined Third and Fourth degree Knights of Columbus rosary at 7:00 pm, both on Wednesday at the funeral home.  Memorials are suggested to the Hays Good Samaritan Society or to the Hays Dog Park, in care of the funeral home.  Condolences may be left for the family at www.haysmemorial.com
