Arlene,
I just saw Sid's obit in the Fort Hays news.  I just wanted to let you know that I remembered him fondly at Emporia State while I was a student there.  I also, for some years, kept up with what he was doing because my former mother-in- law, Ninette Karlin, worked with him at Fort Hays.  I'm so sorry to know that he's gone and pray for your peace.

We were so sorry to learn of Sid's passing. Not long ago we visited with him at Walmart about his retirement, and of course shared some fishing stories. Please accept our deepest sympathies.

Dear Arlene and kids.  I was a hunting and fishing buddy of Sid's during the late 79-s through mid-80's.  He was a hunter, avid angler, lover of southwestern Kansas, his wife and children.  I remember the cook outs, the ball games, all the issues of kids being born and growing up.  He was an officer of the law, a man whose character reflected a strong sense of ethics, high moral character, and the faith of one who understood how small we all are in the big picture.

Mickey and I were deeply saddened to hear of his passing and pray that in grief you can remember the man, husband, father, pal that we all miss.  May God be with you.

Rev. Dick (Sandy) & Mickey Ellis, Plymouth, MN.

Dear Arlene, Matt, Holly, and Family,
Arlene I am so sorry to hear about your loss and to say what a wonderful person God has called home.  All my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family and know that the real grieving begins later.  Please know, especially then, that you are not alone, that all that care for you will be there throughout this difficult time.
Wish I could ease your pain but I will keep in contact and come and see you when I get back to Hays.  All my love  Shelly

Please accept my condolences on the passing of Sid. I worked with Sid when I was the KBI Agent assigned to Hays, Kansas in the 1980's. Sid was always a pleasure to work with on investigations on the campus of FHSU. He was dedicated to the safety and wellbeing of the students of FHSU. You are in my thoughts and prayers.
Respectfully,

Arelene and family…..I was saddened to learn of the passing of Sid, a person of great importance in the FHSU family. I had the opportunity to work with him many years and was always impressed by his wit and humor in dealing with day-to-day activities here at the university.

He may be gone, but Sid will definitely not be forgotten by anyone who ever had the opportunity to know him or become his friend. He truly was an admirable man who made a positive difference in the many lives he touched. He leaves a great legacy, not only in his law enforcement career, but also in the many ways he provided service to the community, support for the university, and the model he provided by his qualities of character, work ethic, and generosity.

May your heart be comforted by all you shared, and his memories keep you and your family company through the years to come. In sympathy,

DeBra

I knew Sid when I was a student at FHSU and worked as the nightwatchman at Wiest Hall for three years in the early 80s.  I remember one night in particular when Sid and his partner laughed uproariously at the title of the book I was reading--"Pigeon Feathers" by John Updike.  (I was an English major.)  That title cracked them up to no end.  Sid was always friendly and helpful, and I'll always value his dedication and service to the students and staff at FHSU.   God bless him and his family.

Mrs Carlile,
I am sure you do not remember me, however I was a student in your class at Jefferson Elementary. I met your husband at that time due to an event that occurred in my life at that time, which happened to have occurred at Fort Hays. I have never forgotten the kindness and care that you both showed me during that time. I just want to offer you my condolences on the loss of a very special man. He showed such compassion and kindness to me, a child he didn't even know during such a horrible time in my life. He was truly a gift.

Dear Arlene, Matt & Holly,

My condolences to you all during this time.  Sid lived in our basement when I was 10 years old, renting from my Mom & Dad as a college student and barber for my Dad (Cecil Gottschalk).  He was such fun to be around, and loved his laugh.  It was good to see him again at my brother Chris' 50th birthday party, your neighbor now.  He so proudly shared his hunting trophies, his favorite pastime!  My deepest sympathy to you all.  May Sid rest in peace.  And may our Lord provide you comfort and healing.

My condolences go out to the Carlile family. I knew Sid when I was a youngster growing up in Hays, Kansas. He had a dog he raised and gave to me(and our family). The dog's name was Sam. I have fond memories of my first dog Sam, and the guy who gave him to me.

I am sorry for your loss.

My thoughts & prayers are with you and your family during this terribly difficult time.  I worked with Sid at the University Police Department when I was in college and loved working with him!  I have very fond memories of the PD with him sharing stories about his family and giving me advice about life.  Although I hadn't seen him in years, it brings tears to my eyes to hear of this news.  I'm so sorry for your loss!  He will definitely be missed, he was a very fun man to be around and always brought a smile to my face!  God bless you and I will keep the prayers coming.

Dear Arlene, Matt and Holly,
We were very saddened to hear the news of Sid's death.  Please know that you are in our thoughts and that we are praying for God's peace for all of you.  Frank and I were reminiscing about Sid today and remembering when we lived on the FHSU campus.  Sid pulled up behind Frank and started his police lights flashing.  Frank had no idea what his traffic violation was, but he pulled over, expecting a ticket or at least a warning.  Sid walked up to the car in his best policeman's stride, stuck his hand in the window and said, "I just wanted to be the first to congratulate you on the birth of your baby!"  That was when Lindsey was born 38 years ago.  It's a sweet memory that we will forever cherish.
God's love, peace and blessings to each of you.
With sympathy and friendship,
Frank and Barb Leo

Dear Arlene,
I cannot tell you how sorry and so shocked I was to hear about Sid.  I found out about the accident on Facebook.  He was such a happy, fun guy and too young to have died.  At least I think he was too young.  You and your family are in my thoughts and deepest prayers.  The best to you and your family during this very hard time.
