Shirley A. Gottschalk, 70, Hays, died Monday, July 16, 2012 at the Hays Medical Center.
She was born November 4, 1941 in Hays the daughter of Martina Sweaney. On February 17, 1962 she married Allen Gottschalk, Sr. in Hays. He died August 11, 1998. She was a housewife and loved doing jigsaw puzzles, puzzle books, and spending time with her family.
Survivors include two sons, Allen Lee Gottschalk, Jr. and Shawn Dean Gottschalk both of Dodge City, KS, one daughter, Tina Gottschalk of Lubbock, TX, two brothers Ernie Speier and wife Marcia of Hays, and Dave Sweaney, sisters Janet Batman and husband Roger of Hays, Pauline Shrader and husband Steve of Oak Harbor, WA, and Mary Riebel of Wichita, KS, three grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Ernest Lee “Ernie” Gottschalk and a sister Carolyn Bacon.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 am on Thursday, July 19, 2012 at the St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Schoenchen, KS. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call on Wednesday from 5:00 until 8:00pm and on Thursday from 9:00am until 9:30, all at the Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, 1906 Pine. A parish vigil will be at 6:30 on Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the Cancer Council of Ellis County in her name and memory.
