Donald L. “Duke” Kuhn

Donald L. “Duke” Kuhn, 75, of Hays, passed away March 23, 2024 at Via Christi Village.

Don was born on October 27, 1948 to Gilbert and Mary (Erbert) Kuhn of Victoria, Kansas.  The family moved to Hays in 1960.  Don graduated from Hays High School, class of 1966, and went on to attend Fort Hays Kansas State College.  From mid-1968 through March 1970, he attended Brown-Mackie Business School in Salina, Kansas.  On June 1, 1970, he began working for the Central Kansas Power Company and continued his career as a loyal employee at Midwest Energy, Inc. for 43 years, retiring in 2014, as a Plant Accountant.

Don enjoyed going to auctions and collecting antiques, including railroad and religious memorabilia.  He enjoyed woodworking and was involved in volunteer archaeology work at the old Fort Hays site.  He was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church.

Survivors include his brother, Keith Kuhn and wife Connie of Hays, and his sister Marian Light and husband Fred of Kansas City.  Nieces and nephews include Claire Albert and children Anika, Trevor, and Kolby of Dodge City, Neil Kuhn of Hays, Scott Kuhn and wife Cassi and children Rosemary and Theodore of Topeka, Taylor Kuhn and wife Viktoria and children Adeline and Klaus of Germany, Katie Kuhn of Salina, Bethany Kuhn of Indiana, and Nick Light and wife Alanna of North Carolina.

He was preceded in death by his parents Mary and Gilbert Kuhn.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 am on Wednesday, March 27, 2024 at St. Nicholas of Myra Catholic Church.  Visitation will be from 5:00 pm until 7:00 on Tuesday and from 9:00 am until 9:45 on Wednesday, all at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home.  A vigil service and rosary will be at 6:00 pm on Tuesday at the funeral home.  Private family inurnment will be at a later date in St. Joseph Cemetery.  Memorials are suggested to Immaculate Heart of Mary Church or for Masses.  Condolences and memories of Don may be shared with his family at www.haysmemorial.com
