Sammy Dean “Sam” Patterson, 81, Hays, died Monday, February 5, 2024 at HaysMed.

He was born July 22, 1942 in Texas County, Missouri, the son of Leslie and Verna (Farris) Patterson.  Sam married Rosalie Klaus in June 1981 in Midland, Texas, and they celebrated 42 years of marriage.  He enjoyed his truck driving career, restoring vehicles, and going to car shows.  Most of all, he loved his family and his dog, Buddy.

Survivors include his wife Rosalie of Hays, his son, Timmy Patterson of Texas, a step-daughter, Karen Simpson and husband Tom of Arizona, four step-sons, Bruce Befort and wife Janel of Texas, Rod Befort and wife Kathy of Garden City, Clayton Befort and wife Sharon of Hays, and Rex Befort and wife Karen of Wichita, 11 grandchildren, Chad, Cole, Cory, Becky, Tammy, Clinton, Austin, Shellie, Andy, Mitch, and Cory, 14 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, four sisters, and a nephew.
