Agnes Marie Karlin

Agnes Marie Karlin, 94, Hill City, formerly of Hays and Oakley, died Sunday, June 25, 2017 at the Dawson Place in Hill City.

She was born February 1, 1923 on the family farm north of Ellis, KS the daughter of Joseph and Mary (Graf) Kohl.  She was a housewife and mother and prior to marriage she worked in a dentist office in Ellis and was a secretary at a car dealership in Kansas City.  On August 8, 1953 she was united in marriage to Eugene J. “Gene” Karlin at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ellis.  He preceded her in death on August 12, 2000.  After marriage, she and Gene remodeled the farm at Winona, KS where they lived until 1962.  They then moved to the farm northwest of Oakley, KS where they remained until Gene passed away.  Agnes moved to Hays shortly after and remained until April of 2012 when she moved to the Dawson Place in Hill City.  She was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Hays, and she enjoyed cooking, cleaning, praying, and helping with things at church.  She instilled her love of music in all of her children and she was so proud that they all earned college degrees and are successful.  She loved her grandchildren and family deeply.

Survivors include two sons; Mark Karlin and wife Rebecca of Aurora, CO, and Craig Karlin and wife Lisa of Hays, four daughters; Karen Keith and husband Joe of Penokee, Mira  Jo Hoke of Black Diamond, WA, Susan Lowman and husband Bill of Manhattan, and Colette Ford and husband David of Aledo, TX, a sister-in-law; Beatrice Kohl of Chula Vista, CA, seventeen grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Gene, and seven brothers; Alec, Paul, Tony, Alfred, Ray, Walter, and Alvin Kohl, and three sisters; Tillie Herrman, Cecelia Jacques, and Elizabeth Hillman.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 9:30 am on Saturday, July 1, 2017 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 1805 Vine St.  Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Friday and from 8:30 am until 9:15 on Saturday, all at the Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, 1906 Pine St.  A parish vigil and rosary will be at 7:00 pm on Friday at the funeral home.  Memorials are suggested to Dawson Place or Graham County Hospice, in care of the funeral home.  Condolences may be left for the family at www.haysmemorial.com
