Dr. Zoran Stevanov
Dr. Zoran Stevanov, 73, Hays, died Tuesday, September 4, 2018 in Albuquerque, New Mexico during a scuba diving trip.
He was born in Novi Sad, Yugoslavia on June 25, 1945. He was married to his lovely wife, Teodora, for 52 years.
Zoran taught at Emporia State University for three years before coming to Fort Hays State University where he had been a professor of arts since 1973. He earned a B.A. Degree from Florida Atlantic University in 1968, and M.F.A. Degree from Wichita State University in 1970, and a Ph.D. Degree in Education from the University of Kansas in 1982. He developed the B.F.A. and M.F.A. photography degrees for FSHU as well as an Art History course for SIAS international. His work has been included in exhibitions at the Lynn Kottler Gallery in New York, the Joslin Museum in Omaha, Monroe Art Museum in Louisiana, and the Paula Insel International Gallery in Puerto Rico. Zoran enjoyed scuba diving, fencing, and tennis.
Survivors include his wife, Teodora, three children; Donald, Adriane, and Max and wife Jennifer, six grandchildren; Tyler, Alexis, Aleksandar, Solidad, Emily, and Olivia, and three great-grandchildren; Oliver, Lily, and Elliott Nova.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 pm on Saturday, September 15, 2018 at the Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, 1906 Pine Street, Hays, with Fr. Joshua Lollar presiding. Burial will follow in the Mt. Allen Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 pm until 6:30 on Friday and 12:00 noon until service time on Saturday, all at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the St. Nicholas Orthodox Christian Church in Lawrence or the Humane Society of the High Plains, in care of the funeral home.
