Viola E. Kaempfe

Viola E. Kaempfe, 82, Hays, died Wednesday, December 12, 2018 at Via Christi Village.

She was born November 23, 1936 in Alden, Kansas the daughter of Clyde W. and Ida C. (Lengel) Vincent.  She received her nursing certificate and BSN degree from Fort Hays State University.  On August 30, 1959 she was united in marriage to Jerry L. Kaempfe in Hays, and they celebrated 52 years of marriage before he preceded her in death on September 17, 2011.  Viola was a registered nurse at Hadley Hospital and local doctors’ offices and for a couple of semesters she taught classes in the FHSU nursing department.  She was a member of the Messiah Lutheran Church, DAR, AARP, the church choir, a teacher for the Vacation Bible School, and was very active with church events.  She enjoyed gardening, her apricot trees, going for walks, animals, taking vacations with her family, music, and attending FHSU events and community social activities including the Hays Public Library Feed and Films program.  She loved the Hays Larks and was an avid Kansas City Royals and Chiefs fan.

Survivors include a son; Victor L. Kaempfe and girlfriend Susan L. Roberts of Amarillo, TX, a daughter; Tina E. Anguish and husband Albert of Stilwell, KS, a grandson; Richard Kaempfe, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Jerry.

Funeral Services will be at 10:30 am on Saturday, December 15, 2018 at Messiah Lutheran Church, 2000 Main Street, with Rev. Rocco Mallardi officiating.  Burial will follow in the Mt. Allen Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 5:00 pm until 7:00 on Friday at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, 1906 Pine Street, Hays and from 9:30 am until service time on Saturday at the church.  Memorials are suggested to the Jerry L. Kaempfe Scholarship at FHSU, FHSU School of Nursing, Sunflower Clydesdales, or the Messiah Lutheran Church, in care of the funeral home.  Condolences and memories of Viola may be shared with the family at www.haysmemorial.com
