Alice L. Gerstner

Alice L. Gerstner, 95, Hays, died Monday, November 15, 2021 at the Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice Center in Wichita.

She was born December 23, 1925 in Catharine, the daughter of Leonard and Margaret (Meier) Staab.  On September 6, 1948 she was united in marriage to Alfred J. Gerstner, and they celebrated nearly 41 years of marriage before he preceded her in death on May 26, 1989.  She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, life member of the Hays VFW Auxiliary, and a former longtime member of the Daughters of Isabella.  She was a homemaker and farmwife and liked helping on the farm.  Alice was independent, created beautiful embroidery projects, enjoyed watching TV and was known to get fired up while watching wrestling.  She was proud to have lived in the same home for 73 years.

Survivors include her son: Wayne Gerstner and wife Sandie of Hays, daughter-in-law: Ida Gerstner of Hays, five grandchildren: Brian Gerstner and wife Janella Mildrexler, Lance Gerstner and wife Brina, Christy Heinlein and husband Tim, James Gerstner, and Whitney Gerstner and husband Taylor Gordon, five great grandchildren: Elizabeth, Maxwell, Quinn, Jacksen, and Reverie, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband: Alfred, son: Myron, five brothers: Edmund, Wendelin, Celly, Felix, and Edgar Staab, and four sisters: Cora Josephine Staab, Mary Staab, Rita Marie Schmidtberger, and Rose Urban.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 1:00 pm on Saturday, November 20, 2021 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, with Fr. Richard Daise officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  Visitation will be from 5:00 pm until 8:00 on Friday and from 12:00 pm until 12:45 on Saturday, all at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home.  A VFW Auxiliary rosary service will be at 6:00 pm followed by a vigil service at 6:30 pm, both on Friday at the funeral home.  Memorials are suggested to the Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice.  Condolences and memories of Alice may be shared with the family at www.haysmemorial.com
