Beverly J. (Arwood) Lowen

Beverly J. (Arwood) Lowen, 83, of Hays, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, August 31, 2021 at Hays Med Center after a long battle with multiple myeloma.

Beverly was born October 13, 1937, to Arnold and Katy (Stephens) Arwood in Hutchinson, Kansas.  She married the love of her life, Robert Lowen, on October 4, 1953. 

They moved to Emporia, KS, in 1961 for Robert to attend Emporia State University.  They moved to Hays, Kansas, in 1965 for Robert’s job at FHSU.

She worked at Farmers State Bank for several years, volunteered at the hospital gift shop, worked at FHSU during enrollment and for ROTC, and she worked as a receptionist for two hair salons.

Beverly was an avid golfer for several years, enjoyed playing bridge with Robert and their friends, playing Scrabble, doing crossword puzzles, and spending time with family and friends. She was a big sports fan for FHSU Tigers, KU Jayhawks, and KC Chiefs.

Survivors include her children:  Bob Lowen Jr (Grace) of Allen, TX; Deanna Aguilar (Carlos) of Ogden, UT; Steve Lowen (Shelley) of Corpus Christi, TX; Debra David (Skip) of Sharon Springs, KS; Doug Lowen of Hays, KS; and Donna Lowen of Huntsville, AL; brothers: Ace Arwood of Enid, OK and Jim Arwood of Enid, OK; and her sister Barbara Stoy of Hutchinson, KS;

Survivors also include grandchildren: Carlos Aguilar III (Heather), Miguel Aguilar (Courtney), Ryan Lowen (Pam), Corey David (Lace), Kiel Lowen (Kate), Christy Kuhn (Jared), Melinda Aguilar, Kaitlyn Wagner (Trent), Kelsie Lowen, Koby Lowen, and Shaun Lowen; and also include great grandchildren: Jess Bair, Ava and Mia Aguilar, Erikson and Violet David, Athan Arteaga, Ethan and Everett Aguilar, Kiefer Kuhn, Landon Lowen, and Avery Wagner, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her husband: Robert Lowen, parents: Arnold Arwood and Katy Dewald, and sister Margaret Goodman.

The family will receive friends from 8:30 am until 9:45 on Friday, September 3, 2021 at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home.  A short prayer service will begin at 9:45 am, with Rev. Craig Hauschild officiating.  Burial will be at 2:00 pm in Sumner Memorial Gardens, Wellington, KS.  Memorials are suggested to the HaysMed Dreiling Schmidt Cancer Center.  Condolences and memories of Beverly may be shared with the family at www.haysmemorial.com
