Carol Ann Schlegel, 72, Hays, died Wednesday, April 13, 2022 at HaysMed.

She was born April 25, 1949 in Hays, the daughter of Frank and Pauline (Zimmerman) Younker.  In 1967, she graduated from Marian High School and then attended Fort Hays State University where she received an Associate’s Degree.  On May 7, 1982 she was united in marriage to Myron Lee Schlegel in Munjor, and they were married nearly 40 years.  For 17 years, Carol worked at Travenol as quality control manager, retiring in 1985.  She also worked on the family farm, where she would reset fence, paint, and help with harvest.  Her memberships included St. Nicholas of Myra Catholic Church and the St. Nicholas Ladies Guild.  She loved baking and cooking, going on walks, and animals, especially cats.  She also enjoyed Dairy Queen treats, going to the movies, and occasionally dining out.  Carol was always ready to travel, and could make the best of any situation, including a 14-hour airport delay.  She was a stylish lady who loved shopping and was always appreciative of the good in her life, worked through the challenges, and let her happiness show through her beautiful smile. 

Survivors include her husband Myron of Hays, mother: Pauline Younker of Munjor, two children: Ken Schlegel and Lisa Schlegel, both of Hays, brother: Darold Younker and wife Evelyn of Munjor, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 am on Tuesday, April 19, 2022 at St. Nicholas of Myra Catholic Church with Fr. Damian Richards officiating.  Burial will follow in St. Francis Cemetery, Munjor.  Visitation will be from 5:00 pm until 7:00 on Monday at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home and from 9:00 am until service time on Tuesday at the church.  A vigil service and rosary will be at 6:00 pm on Monday at the funeral home.  Memorials in Carol’s memory may be made payable to the Humane Society of the High Plains.  Condolences and memories of Carol may be shared with the family at www.haysmemorial.com
