Cathleen Marie “Cathy” Karlin

Cathleen Marie “Cathy” Karlin, 69, Hays, died Monday, May 2, 2022 at KU Medical Center.

She was born November 3, 1952 in Denver, Colorado, one of nine children to Robert and Rosemary E. (Hall) Scheck.  In 1971, she graduated from Iver C. Ranum High School in Westminster. She was united in marriage to Dennis A. Karlin on April 30, 1976 in Ellis, and they celebrated 46 years of marriage.  Cathy enjoyed working at Food Bonanza and Eagle Communications, and was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, possessed a strong faith, enjoyed Christian music, and loved her friends and family.  Not only were her children and grandchildren special to her, but also her nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.  She loved attending her grandchildren’s sporting events and was their biggest fan.  She enjoyed puzzles, garage sales, Thrift Shops, watching home improvement shows, and playing Pinochle, volleyball, softball and tennis.  Cathy was an avid KU basketball and KC Royals fan.  Her kindness and outgoing personality were readily shared with friends, family, and the elderly.

Survivors include her husband Dennis of Hays, son: Anthony “Tony” Karlin (Rachel) of Greendale, WI, two daughters: Angela Karlin of Hays and Audrey Karlin (Brandon Wilt) of Merriam, two brothers: Roy Scheck (Carol) of Arvada and Ron Scheck of Shawnee, four sisters: Janice Deeds (Bill) of Pratt, Mary Wright (Richard) of Hays, Nancy Lichtenauer (Frank) of Leewood, and Elizabeth Schmeidler (Gary) of Hays, nine grandchildren: Elissa, Andrew, Gabriel, Daniel, Jacob, Benjamin, Wesley, Rose, and Joy, and numerous nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother: Robert L. Scheck, and a sister: Diane Melofsky.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 am on Monday, May 9, 2022 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church with Fr. Nick Parker officiating.  Burial will follow in St. Catherine Cemetery, Catharine.  Visitation will be from 5:00 pm until 8:00 on Sunday and from 9:00 am until 9:45 on Monday, all at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home.  A vigil service and rosary will be at 6:30 pm on Sunday at the funeral home.  Memorials are suggested to Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church.  Condolences and memories of Cathy may be shared with her family at www.haysmemorial.com
