Clarence C. “Bud” Jacobs, Jr.

Clarence C. “Bud” Jacobs, Jr., 81, Hays, died Monday, September 7, 2020 at HaysMed.

He was born January 15, 1939 in Hays the son of Clarence C. “Curly” and Bertha (Schmidt) Jacobs.  In 1957 he graduated from St. Joseph Military Academy and he served in the Kansas National Guard for many years.  On June 2, 1962 he was united in marriage to Dorothy Mae Dinkel in Victoria and they celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary.  Clarence worked for Farmers State Bank, for Farmers Insurance for 42 years, and after his retirement, with his son at State Glass Company.  He was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, the St. Mary’s Third Degree Knights of Columbus Council #6984, and was a past member of the Kiwanis Club of Hays.  He was very active in his church, helping with the parish picnics and soup suppers for 25 years.  His hobbies included playing and coaching softball, his team affectionately called “Bud’s Babes”.  He loved barbequing for his family, was a Kansas City Chiefs and Royals fan, and an avid bowler.  His number one priority was his family, he loved his children and grandchildren, attending their events and supporting them.    

Survivors include his wife Dorothy of the home, a son; Francis Jacobs and wife Stephanie, two daughters; Michelle Chittenden and husband John II, and Kelly Lagree and husband Tony, and a brother; Thomas Jacobs and wife Billie, all of Hays, and seven grandchildren; Mason Lagree, Haileigh Jacobs, Johnny Chittenden, Gabrielle Chittenden, Hunter Jacobs, Maddie Lagree, and Marcus Lagree.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 am on Thursday, September 10, 2020 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, with Fr. Nick Parker and Fr. Don Zimmerman officiating.  Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 5:00 pm until 8:00 on Wednesday and from 9:00 am until 9:45 on Thursday, all at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home.  A vigil service will be at 6:30 pm followed by a Knights of Columbus rosary, all on Wednesday at the funeral home.  Memorials are suggested to Immaculate Heart of Mary Church.  Condolences and memories of Bud may be shared with the family at www.haysmemorial.com
