Donald D. “Don” Forssberg

Donald D. “Don” Forssberg, 87, Hays, died Thursday, November 5, 2020 at his home.

He was born July 15, 1933 in Rooks County, Kansas, the son of Gus and Mary (Vogel) Forssberg.  He was a graduate of Logan High School and a served in the United States Army during the Korean War.  Don was a longtime resident of Logan, Kansas, owned and operated Don’s Construction for 35 years, owned and operated Logan Lumber Company, worked at Farmer’s National Bank of Logan for 11 years, and after moving to Hays was the financial secretary at Hays First United Methodist Church.  On April 11, 1954 he was united in marriage to Leora L. Maley at the United Methodist Church in Logan, and they celebrated 66 years of marriage.  Memberships included:  Hays First United Methodist Church, charter member of the Logan Lions Club, Logan School Board, First Christian Church of Logan Board, and the Dane G. Hansen Museum Board for 25 years.  He served on the Logan City Council and was the City Treasurer and Mayor.  Don loved woodworking and enjoyed completing various woodworking projects for his family.

Survivors include his wife Leora, of the home in Hays, three daughters:  Cindy Affolter and husband David of Morganville, Connie Forssberg of Hays, and Christy Dykens and husband Jim of Altus, OK, a brother: Keith Eugene Forssberg and wife Pat of Logan, a sister:  Janice Lohrmeyer and husband Gale of Logan, four grandsons:  Nathan Affolter and wife Laurel, Kyle Affolter and wife Amy, Ryan Affolter and Joshua Dykens, and a great grandson:  Bronson Affolter.

Memorial Services will be at 2:00 pm on Friday, November 13, 2020 at Hays First United Methodist Church, with Rev. Mike Rose and Rev. Delbert Stanton officiating.  Military honors by the Hays VFW Post #9076 Honor Guard will follow.  The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 on Friday at the church.  Inurnment will be at a later date in Pleasant View Cemetery in Logan.  Memorials are suggested to Hays First United Methodist Church or to First Christian Church of Logan, in care of Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home.  Condolences and memories of Don may be shared with the family at www.haysmemorial.com
