Donald E. “Don” Hageman

Donald E. “Don” Hageman, 74, Hays, died Wednesday, February 24, 2021 at HaysMed.

He was born January 8, 1947 in Iola, Kansas, the son of Russell and Lillian (Lowe) Hageman.  In 1965, he graduated from LaHarpe High School.  He graduated from Emporia State University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education.  On December 23, 1972, he was united in marriage to Janice L. Green in LaHarpe, and they celebrated 48 years of marriage.  Don dedicated 48 years of his life to teaching social studies and coaching football, basketball, track, soccer, and scholar’s bowl.  He began his career in Norcatur, taught at Hoxie Junior High School, and retired from Thomas More Prep-Marian High School in 2017.  After retirement, he transported foster children for KVC and St. Francis Ministries.  He was a Boy Scout Troop Committee Chairman and active with the Boy Scouts with his sons as they were becoming Eagle Scouts.  Don was friendly and quick with a smile and a joke.

Survivors include his wife Janice of Hays, two sons: Bryan Hageman of Phoenix, AZ and David Hageman of Lawrence, a brother: Gary Hageman and wife Artheia of Topeka, and a grandson: Liam Hageman.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm on Monday, March 1, 2021 at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home.  Burial will follow in Fort Hays Memorial Gardens Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 1:00 until 2:00 on Monday at the funeral home.  Memorials may be made payable to: TMP-M High School Scholar’s Bowl.  Condolences and memories of Don may be shared with the family at www.haysmemorial.com
