Donna Lee (Bollig) Brohman
Donna Lee (Bollig) Brohman, 71, of Downs, Kansas passed away peacefully with family by her side on May 17, 2026 at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas.
She was born February 20, 1955 in Hays, Kansas to Virgil Martin and Adelinde Marie (Leikam) Bollig. She was a 1973 graduate of Hays High School and then attended college in Salina. On January 7, 1974, she married Paul Timothy Brohman in Salina, a union which blessed them with three children; William Michael, Jennifer Dee, and Amanda Sue.
Donna was a master of many skills, from running a bar (Ma’s Place) and liquor store with her husband Paul, to working as a cook at the Glen Elder Senior Center and secretary at the Smith County Sheriff’s Department. She was a dedicated, hard worker, and any attempt at getting her to retire was quickly squashed by her. Donna was very stubborn and independent like that, but it was also one of her greatest qualities because it made her so incredibly strong. She worked up until April 30, 2026 when her health took at turn.
Donna loved people. She was giving, always wanted to help, loved fiercely, and welcomed anyone into her fold. She was well known as being a second Mom to more people than anyone could keep track of and could always be found socializing with friends or family and most generally giving people a hard time. She was known to partake in a mean game of Bingo, Monopoly, Clue, and a VERY competitive game of Uno at which she ALWAYS cheated. She also loved to read, watch tornado movies (specifically repeated nights of the Twister movies on the weekends with family), was a huge Jurassic Park fan, and also loved any shark movie. Her biggest passion was anything Disney, but especially Mickey Mouse. She had a collection that could compete with Disney themselves. Donna was an avid K-State fan, die-hard Kansas City Chiefs fan, and in years past had cheered on the Minnesota Vikings.
Surviving family includes her son William “Bill” Brohman (EmaKate) of Saint Paul, Minnesota, daughter Jennifer Brohman of Jefferson City, Missouri, her niece with whom she was invaluable to Melissa Wellbrock (John) of Victoria, her brother Wayne Bollig (Connie) of Hays, her sister-in-law Kristine Bollig of Hays, her children’s father, Paul, seven grandchildren Cassius, Kaiya, Khari, Kinley, Michael, William and Adelinde, a large group of honorary grandchildren Michael, Sara, Jacob, Katie, Jordan, MaKenna, and Josselyn, and was soon to be honorary great-grandma to a baby girl. She is also survived by numerous nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends that became family and "adopted" kids.
She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter Amanda Sue, her sister Karen Rose Strachan, and her brother Dennis Virgil Bollig.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 am on Friday, May 29, 2026 at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home with Pastor Russell Kirkpatrick officiating. Inurnment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 9:00 am until service time on Friday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested for family wishes and may be made payable to Melissa Wellbrock.
