Edgena M. “Jean” Fieler

Edgena M. “Jean” Fieler, 88, Hays, died Sunday, May 7, 2023 at her home surrounded by family.

She was born January 7, 1935 in Batesville, Indiana, the daughter of Edwin and Genevieve (Ferkinhoff) Lamping.  Jean grew up in the nearby town of Oldenburg, Indiana and graduated from Immaculate Conception Academy in 1953.  On September 29, 1956 she was united in marriage to James L. “Jim” Fieler in Oldenburg and they celebrated over 66 years of marriage.  Jean worked at Travenol, was a dietary aide at Hadley Hospital, and for 25 years, volunteered at the Community Assistance Center.  She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, longtime Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration Adorer, and had a great devotion to the Blessed Mother and daily praying the Rosary.  Jean loved her family, friends, and enjoyed visiting with people.

Survivors include her husband Jim of the home, a son, Kevin Fieler and wife Kay of Shawnee, two daughters, Amy Luebbers and husband Jeff of Hays and Dawn Keil and husband Steve of Hays, daughter-in-law, Carol Fieler of Schoenchen, nine grandchildren, Jade Herl and husband Justin, Jonathan Fieler and wife Brandie, Mallory Bibens and husband Ryan, Chelsea Mauler and husband Trent, Heidi Gerhard and husband Cade, Hannah Dreiling and husband Dane, Cody Luebbers and fiancé Jenna Witteman, Alyssa Keil, and Jenna Luebbers, and 14 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Keith Fieler, a daughter, Lisa Ann Fieler, her brother, William Lamping, and her sister, Sr. Natalie Lamping.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 am on Thursday, May 11, 2023 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, with Fr. Richard Daise officiating.  Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 5:00 pm until 8:00 on Wednesday and from 9:00 am until 9:45 on Thursday, all at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home.  A vigil service and rosary will be at 6:30 pm on Wednesday at the funeral home.  Memorials are suggested to St. Joseph Catholic Church, Hospice of HaysMed, or for masses.  Condolences and memories of Jean may be shared with her family at www.haysmemorial.com
