Francis “Frankie” Braun

Francis “Frankie” Braun, 85, rural Hays, died Wednesday, October 14, 2020 at Via Christi Village.

He was born March 1, 1935 on the family farm west of Victoria, the son of Frank J. and Helen M. (Brungardt) Braun.  He was a graduate of Hays High School in the class of 1953 and was a United States Army veteran.  On May 19, 1962 he was united in marriage to Jacquelyn “Jacky” Zimmerman at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Schoenchen, and they celebrated 58 years of marriage.  He was a farmer and stockman, and loved his work.  His memberships included Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, the Schoenchen St. Anthony Knights of Columbus Council #4166, Kansas Livestock Association, and the American Simmental Association.  He enjoyed playing baseball, bowling, and the Kansas City Royals.  He loved raising his cattle, farming, and horses.  His faith and his family were of utmost importance to him, and he loved spending time with his grandchildren. 

Survivors include his wife Jacky, of the home in rural Hays, a son: Shawn Braun of Victoria, a daughter: Simone Werth and husband Mark of Hays, two sisters: LaVerna Younger and Helen Werth, both of Hays, four grandchildren: Cameron Werth and wife Jennifer of Topeka, Leighton Werth and wife Jodie of Hays, Nathan Braun and fiancé Kilie Unrein of Victoria, and Breanna Braun of Phoenix, AZ, five great grandchildren: Aiden, Liam, Jack, Carter, and Wyatt Werth, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers: Marvin and Robert “Bobby” Braun.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 am on Saturday, October 17, 2020 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, with Fr. Nick Parker officiating.  Private family burial with military honors by the Hays VFW Post #9076 Honor Guard will be in St. Anthony Cemetery in Schoenchen.  Visitation will be from 9:00 am until 10:00 on Saturday at the church.  The family is requesting that attendees wear masks and practice social distancing for the public services.  Memorials are suggested to Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, St. John’s Chapel at Via Christi Village, or to the St. Anthony Cemetery Fund.  Condolences and memories of Frankie may be shared with the family at www.haysmemorial.com
