George A. Lang
George A. Lang, 96, Hays, passed away Wednesday, June 2, 2021 at Hays Medical Center.
He was born on September 2, 1924 in Victoria, the son of Anthony J. and Katherine (Wiesner) Lang. On April 6, 1948, he married Lenora M. Kuhn in Victoria. She preceded him in death on August 19, 2013 after 65 years of marriage. George was a graduate of Victoria Rural High School who served in the U.S. Army Signal Corps during WWII, taking him to Austria, Germany, and France as a translator. He played baseball for Toulon and Catherine and remained an avid baseball fan all his life. He was a lifelong farmer and stockman, who loved the land, driving the tractor and riding in the combine at harvest time, and farming. He was a member of St. Nicholas of Myra Catholic Church, the Third Degree St. Nicholas Knights of Columbus Council #10044, Hays VFW Post #9076, and was a Perpetual Adorer for many years. He was often seen at daily mass at St. Nicholas. George had an infectious smile for all that broadened wider at the sight of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include one son: Paul Lang (Linda) of Hays, one daughter: Kathleen Lang Goeken (John) of Shorewood, IL, seven grandchildren: Amber (Randa) Harvell (Daniel) of Mooresville, NC, Brent Randa (Hannah) and Bryson Randa of Salisbury, NC, Jenny Lang of Salina, Stacy Lang of Kansas City, MO, Aron Goeken (Shead) of Banff, Canada, and Danielle Goeken of Shorewood, IL, three great-grandchildren: Tegan Harvell, Elise Harvell, and Hadli Randa of North Carolina, three sisters-in-law: Dorothy Lang of Hays, Cora Lou Ryan of Victoria, and Alice DeHart of Renton, WA, and numerous step-grandchildren, step great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
He was proceeded in death by his wife Lenora, two daughters: Mary Georgine Lang and Barbara J. (Lang) Randa, a son-in-law: Gene F. Randa, four brothers: Isidore, Clarence, Anthony, and Ralph Lang, and two sisters: Oliva (Lang) Pfannenstiel, and Leona (Lang) Walters.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 am on Thursday, June 10, 2021 at St. Nicholas of Myra Catholic Church with Fr. Damian Richards officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery with military honors by Hays VFW Honor Guard. Visitation will be from 5:00 pm. until 8:00 on Wednesday and from 9:00 am. until 9:45 on Thursday, all at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home. A vigil service will be at 6:00 pm followed by a Knights of Columbus rosary, all on Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to St. Nicholas of Myra Catholic Church.
