Harvey F. Munsch
Harvey F. Munsch, 74, Hays, died Thursday, November 30, 2023 at HaysMed.
He was born July 17, 1949 in Hays, the son of Edwin and Albertine (Kuhn) Munsch. In 1967, he graduated from St. Joseph’s Military Academy. He was a Sergeant in the U. S. Army during the Vietnam War. On February 16, 1973, he was united in marriage to Cindy Braun at St. Joseph Catholic Church, and they celebrated 50 years of marriage. Harvey was a construction superintendent, working for Pierce Schippers Construction and CV Cale Construction. He was a member of the St. Anthony Third Degree Knights of Columbus Council #4166 in Schoenchen and a KU Jayhawks and Kansas City Chiefs fan. Harvey enjoyed gardening, fishing, hunting, golfing, and being outdoors. He never knew a stranger, welcomed everyone with a smile and “hi”, and was always helping others. He had so much love for his family and relished every opportunity to attend his grandchildren’s sporting events.
Survivors include his wife Cindy of the home, three daughters, Heather Kaiser and husband Tyler of Hays, Mandy Tepper and husband Ari of Aurora, CO, and Tamara Akers and husband Michael of Argyle, TX, three brothers, Victor Munsch and wife Joyce of Hays, Clarence Munsch and wife Pat of Prairie Village, and Edwin Munsch, Jr. of Hays, three sisters, Shirley Huff of Lindsborg, Janice Cheek and husband David of Overland Park, and Agnes Myovela of Wichita, six grandchildren, Lincoln Ector and wife Brandy, Taylon Kaiser, Nolan and Briana Tepper, Eddie and Zack Akers, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and two sisters, Patricia Applegate and Elizabeth “Elsie” Hendrickson.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 am on Tuesday, December 5, 2023 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Fr. Richard Daise officiating. Burial with military honors by the Hays VFW Post #9076 will follow in St. Fidelis Cemetery in Victoria. Visitation will be from 5:00 pm until 8:00 on Monday at St. Joseph Church and from 9:00 am until 9:45 on Tuesday at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home. A vigil service will be at 6:30 pm followed by a Knights of Columbus rosary, all on Monday at the church. Memorials are suggested to HaysMed Hospice or to the Humane Society of the High Plains.
