Howard Lee Schmidt

Howard Lee Schmidt, 66, Hays, died Monday, November 9, 2020 at HaysMed.

He was born November 21, 1953 in Hays, the son of George J. and Caroline (Dreiling) Schmidt.  In 1971 he graduated from Hays High School.  Howard was a custodian at Fort Hays State University and a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.  He was a Denver Broncos fan, loved the mountains, country and western music, horses and cowboy stuff.  Howard enjoyed trout fishing, flower gardening, and learning to cook.  He loved his family, was selfless, happy, and had a way of making others feel better.

Survivors include two brothers: Ralph Schmidt of Pearl City, HI and George Schmidt and wife Kristy of McPherson, two sisters: Kathy Quigley of Manhattan and Elizabeth Speer and husband Lynden of Clearwater, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother-in-law: Dan Quigley.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 am on Friday, November 20, 2020 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Fr. Brian Lager officiating.  Visitation will be from 9:30 am until 10:45 on Friday at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home.  Inurnment will be at a later date in St. Joseph Cemetery.  Memorials are suggested to Hospice of HaysMed.  Condolences and memories of Howard may be shared with the family at www.haysmemorial.com
