James “Boise” Carrasco

James “Boise” Carrasco, 79, Hays, died Monday, December 1, 2025 at his home.

He was born January 15, 1946 in Hays, the son of Alberto and Evelyn (Speier) Carrasco.  Boise did construction work all his life, starting out as a little boy carrying bricks for his dad, becoming a mud tender for Schumacher Brothers when he was a little older, and then working his way up to brick mason.  For a while, he was co-owner of J&R Masonry then worked for D&S Masonry until he retired.

On April 16, 1966, he was united in marriage to Sue Wiesner in Ellis, and they celebrated 59 years of marriage.  Boise and Sue enjoyed their many trips to Arizona, and Boise was always playing games and telling tall tales when traveling with his daughter and granddaughters.  He enjoyed woodworking and cherished his yearly fishing trips with his best buddies, but taking care of his family was always his first priority and biggest joy.  He enjoyed teaching his son-in-law home improvement skills and sneaking off to play pool, and he truly delighted in football season and the Sunday tradition of watching the games, especially the Kansas City Chiefs, with his son, daughter-in-law, and grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife Sue of the home, his son Dean Carrasco (Pattie) of Schoenchen, his daughter Dawn Robles (José) of Surprise, AZ, five brothers, Robert Carrasco of Wyoming, Paul Carrasco (Linda) of Victoria, Frank Carrasco (Diane Meyers) of Hays, Danny Carrasco (Colette) of Hays, and Mike Carrasco of Hays, three sisters, Sue Hood of Wichita, Debbie Carrasco (Christy Barry) of Hays, and Lisa Gillpatrick (Bob) of Overland Park, five grandchildren, Kelsey Legleiter (Zach), Tyler Carrasco, Aaliyah Robles, Sasha Robles, and Gabriela Robles, his great grandson Callan Legleiter, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his in-laws John and Mary Wiesner, one brother Alberto “Molly” Carrasco, Jr., a brother-in-law Howard Hood, a niece Farrah Carrasco, and a nephew Terry Kaiser.
