Kathleen Marie Evans, 68, Hays, died Tuesday, January 14, 2020 at HaysMed.

She was born August 29, 1951 in Hays, the daughter of Henry and Loretta (Giebler) Stecklein.  In 1969 she graduated from Hays High School.  She attended Kansas University majoring in music and graduated from Fort Hays State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in music.  She was a member of Sigma Alpha Iota, Alpha Pi (Fort Hays State University) chapter.  On July 1, 1977 she was united in marriage to Charles “Chuck” Harold Evans, Jr.  He preceded her in death in November of 1984.  She owned Kathy’s Piano Studio where she taught piano lessons, was a homemaker, and a sales associate at JCPenney, Kline’s Department Store and Stage.  She was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, a perpetual adorer, an organist at Immaculate Heart of Mary and St. Nicholas of Myra churches, and music director at St. Nicholas Church.  Kathleen enjoyed crafts, sewing, toll and ceramic painting, and playing piano.  She loved her family, was an awesome mom, and enjoyed her trips to New York to see her daughter.

She is survived by a daughter; Theresa Marie Evans of Brooklyn, NY, three brothers; Jerry Stecklein and wife Joanne of Colleyville, TX, Daniel Stecklein and wife Gayle of Hays, and Duane Stecklein and wife Mary of Munjor, a sister; Virginia Hertel of Arvada, CO, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister; Mary Koy Kippes, and a brother-in-law; David Hertel.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 am on Friday, January 17, 2020 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Munjor, with Fr. Jarett Konrade officiating.  Burial will follow in St. Francis Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 5:00 pm until 8:00 on Thursday and from 8:30 am until 9:30 on Friday, all at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home.  A vigil service and rosary will be at 6:30 pm on Thursday at the funeral home.  Memorials are suggested to the American Diabetes Association or to the Lewy Body Dementia Association.  Condolences and memories of Kathleen may be shared with the family at www.haysmemorial.com
