Kenneth LeRoy “Kenny” McCormick
Kenneth LeRoy “Kenny” McCormick, 76, Hays, died Saturday, June 5, 2021 at HaysMed.
He was born August 5, 1944 in Wichita, Kansas, the third son of John P. and Armella (Leiker) McCormick. He graduated from Great Bend High School. On November 28, 1964 he was united in marriage to his high school girlfriend, Gloria Ann Scheck. She preceded him in death on November 15, 2015 after 51 years of marriage. Kenny managed a Phillips 66 station in Emporia, worked for his dad in construction, and for 30 years worked for Schult Homes in Plainville, retiring in 1998. Kenny and Gloria then moved to Hays and for a little more than three years Kenny worked part-time for the City of Hays. He was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, the St. Mary’s Third Degree Knights of Columbus Council #6984, and the Bishop Cunningham Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus. He was a jack-of-all-trades and handyman who would lend a helping hand when friends and family needed home maintenance and repairs. Kenny enjoyed woodworking, building, whittling, and tinkering with many projects.
Survivors include his son: Craig McCormick and wife Lisa of Wilmington, NC, three daughters: Candy Jones and Michelle Kirkpatrick of Plainville, and Dawn McCormick of Hays, a sister-in-law: Phyllis McCormick of Great Bend, seven grandchildren: Cody Jones, Kyle Jones (Christy), Brennon Kirkpatrick (Ashley), Lilianna Griffith, Brianna Griffith, Skyler McCormick, and Ryder McCormick, and two great grandchildren: Lincoln and Colton Stipe.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Gloria, and three brothers: Larry, Jerry, and DeWayne McCormick.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 am on Friday, June 11, 2021 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, with Fr. Nick Parker officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 pm until 8:00 on Thursday and from 9:00 am until 9:45 on Friday, all at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home. The Bishop Cunningham Knights of Columbus will stand honor guard from 5:30 until 6:30, a vigil service will be at 6:30, followed by a combined third and fourth degree Knights of Columbus rosary, all on Thursday at the funeral home.
