Jay is remembered with love by his three children; Brandon Weigel and wife Emily of Hays and granddaughter Blair, Alan Weigel of Hays, and Christina Weigel-Gao and husband Erik (Qi) of Hays, two brothers; Duane Weigel and wife Cindy of Hays, and Roger Weigel and wife Ramona of Hays, two sisters; Marla Weigel and Vaughn McMurtrie of Hays, and Coy Wasinger of Victoria, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Vern and Olie.
