Lavern J. “Augie” Augustine

Lavern J. “Augie” Augustine, died Monday, August 19, 2024 at HaysMed.

He was born January 23, 1942 in Hays, the son of Joseph and Cunnigunda (Korbe) Augustine.   He graduated from Hays High School in 1960, and on August 10, 1963 he was united in marriage to Betty Schmidt at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hays.  They celebrated 61 years of marriage.  For 38 years, Augie worked as a meter tech for Midwest Energy.  He was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, was a talented craftsman who built two homes for his family, and he loved restoring classic 50’s cars.

Survivors include his wife Betty of Hays, his son Lavern “Vern” Augustine and wife Therese of Bucyrus, his daughter, Tammy Anderson and husband Rich of Hays, one brother, Robert Augustine of Hays, a sister-in-law, Rosie Augustine of Hays, four grandchildren, Nicole Komaromi and husband John, John Augustine and wife Kirsten, Rebecca Cole and husband Garrett, and Raena Anderson, four great grandchildren, Stanley, Isabella, and Henry Komaromi, George Augustine, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, Alfred, Marvin, Ralph, and Francis Augustine, and four sisters, Mary Ann Whitaker, Lucille Younger, Josephine Urban, and Norma Weigel.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 am on Monday, August 26, 2024 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church.  Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 5:00 pm until 8:00 on Sunday and from 9:00 am until 9:45 on Monday, all at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home.  Recitation of the rosary will be at 6:00 pm followed by a vigil service at 6:30, both on Sunday at the funeral home.  Memorials are suggested to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or for masses.  Condolences and memories of Augie may be shared with his family at www.haysmemorial.com
