Marvin Carl Zimmer

Marvin Carl Zimmer, 73, Hays, died Friday, September 10, 2021 at The Willow House in Hays.

He was born November 12, 1947 in Hays, the son of Albert and Caroline (Kober) Zimmer.  He was a graduate of Schoenchen High School and a graduate of Fort Hays State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in mathematics.  On July 28, 1972, he was united in marriage to Janice D. Oller at St. Joseph Catholic Church, and they celebrated 49 years of marriage.  Marvin worked both domestic and international for Halliburton Services, retiring after 32 years.  While with Halliburton, he worked in Kansas, Wyoming, Alaska, Libya and Algeria.  Marvin became an independent contractor with BP and offshore with Pioneer from 2005 until 2013, and then he worked for Auto Auction in Hays.  He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the St. Anthony Third Degree Knights of Columbus Council #4166, Schoenchen.  Marvin enjoyed gardening, computers, target shooting at the family farm, and was an FHSU football and basketball fan.  Most of all, he loved his family.

Survivors include his wife Janice of Hays, a son: Greg Zimmer of Hays, two sisters: Marian Spittles of Hays and Wilma Payne and husband John of Berryton, a sister-in-law: Mary Zimmer of Hays, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a son: Clayton Zimmer, two brothers: Gerald and Eugene Zimmer, and a niece: Crystal White.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 am on Friday, September 17, 2021 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, with Fr. Rich Daise officiating.  Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 6:00 pm until 8:00 on Thursday and from 9:00 am until 9:45 on Friday, all at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home.  A vigil service will be at 7:00 pm followed by a Knights of Columbus rosary on Thursday at the funeral home.  Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer’s Association.  Condolences and memories of Marvin may be shared with the family at www.haysmemorial.com
