Mary Lee (Scheetz) (Campbell) Brooks

Mary Lee (Scheetz) (Campbell) Brooks, 94, Hays, died Wednesday, October 7, 2020 at Via Christi Village in Hays, Kansas.

She was born October 16, 1925 to Leonard and Marie (Otter) Scheetz at the family farm in Norton County, Kansas.  On August 6, 1948, she was united in marriage to James “Jim” Campbell.  He preceded her in death on February 4, 1973.  She was united in marriage to Bradley “Brad” Brooks on April 15, 1974.  He preceded her in death on December 19, 1993.  

Survivors include her eight children: Mary Jane (Richard) Schroeder of Atwood, Joseph (Alice) Campbell of Wichita, Eloise Long of Hays, Marita Campbell of Chapman, George (Carol) Campbell of Topeka, Paula (Mike) Flesher of Hays, Joan (Leonard) Long of Logan, and Theresa (Tom) Ginther of Luray, one step-son: James (Shannon) Brooks of Clayton, 18 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, and four siblings: Julianne Gallentine, Eileen McCuistion, Fr. Daniel Scheetz, and Raymond (Ardith) Scheetz.  

She was preceded in death by her parents, two spouses, and three siblings: Fr. Joseph Scheetz, Geraldine Campbell, and Donald Scheetz.

A private family Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 am on Monday, October 12, 2020 at St. Nicholas of Myra Catholic Church, with Fr. Damian Richards and Fr. Dan Scheetz officiating.  Burial will be at 2:00 pm in Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Leoville.  Visitation for the public will be from 5:00 pm until 7:00 on Sunday and from 9:00 am until 9:45 on Monday, all at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home.  A vigil service and rosary will be at 6:30 pm on Sunday at the funeral home.  Please wear a mask to the visitation and funeral mass. Memorials are suggested for masses, to the Sisters of St. Joseph, or to Mt.
