Mary Jane Koerner

Mary Jane Koerner, 79, Munjor, died Saturday, January 14, 2023 at Locust Grove Village in LaCrosse.

She was born July 7, 1943 in Ramona, Oklahoma, the daughter of Chester and Mabel (Symonds) Buttman.  She was a 1961 graduate of Ramona High School and on May 26, 1962 she was united in marriage to Julius L. “Julie” Koerner, Jr. in Munjor.  He preceded her in death on March 14, 2016.  Mary Jane was a Wal-Mart greeter for many years and her memberships included St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church and St. Francis Christian Mothers.  She enjoyed doing word searches, cooking, canning, and baking delicious cookies and candies, especially at Christmas.

Survivors include her daughter: Brenda Windholz and husband Mark of Hays, a son-in-law: Darrell Austin of Fort Collins, CO, seven grandchildren: Chris Leiker, Jr. and wife Cassie, Amber Autenrieth and husband Daniel, Nick Austin and wife Katelynn, Kara Koerner and significant other Brenton Hagan, Curtis Koerner and significant other Emori Dodson, Chase Anderson and wife Nikki, and Michael Windholz and wife Nicole, and numerous great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her son: Steven Koerner, daughter: Nancy Faye Austin, six brothers: Gary, Kenny, Earl, Chester, Bill, and Ora Lee Buttman, three sisters: Maggie Chitwood, Grace Givens, and Ruby Mae Buttman, and a granddaughter: Julie Windholz. 

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 am on Thursday, January 19, 2023 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Munjor, with Fr. Damian Richards officiating.  Inurnment will follow in St. Francis Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 9:00 am until service time on Thursday at the church.  Memorials are suggested to Locust Grove Village or for masses.  Services are in the care of Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home and condolences and memories of Mary Jane may be shared with her family at www.haysmemorial.com
