Richard A. “Rich” Rupp

Richard A. “Rich” Rupp, 81, Hays, died Saturday, September 2, 2023 at HaysMed.

He was born May 29, 1942 in Hays, the son of Edward and Rose (Groff) Rupp.  He worked as a cement truck driver for Allied, Inc.  On October 12, 1968, he was united in marriage to Vickie Ann Walters in Hays, and she preceded him in death on February 6, 2015.  Rich was an avid music listener, loved animals, especially dogs and had numerous hobbies, including lawn care, carpentry, target shooting, tinkering, motor work, and riding motorcycle and snowmobiles.  He loved the Fourth of July, treating his grandchildren to ice cream and watching them open Christmas presents.

Survivors include his two daughters, Kendra Vaughn and husband Johnathan and Laura Wellbrock and husband Christopher, both of Hays, two sisters, Patty “Doll” Rogers of Kansas City and Betty Chew and husband Otto of Hays, five grandchildren, Noah Vaughn and fiancé Mia “Levi” Weilert, Katie and Daylen Vaughn, Savanna and Lillian Wellbrock.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Vickie, five brothers, Bill, Francis “Hammie”, Thomas, Edward Jr., and Robert Rupp, and a sister, Delores Rupp Froelich-Gross.

To celebrate and remember Rich’s life, the family will receive friends from 4:00 pm until 6:00 on Saturday, September 9, 2023 at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home.  Inurnment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery at a later date.  Memorials are suggested to the family for funeral expenses and checks may be made payable to Hays Memorial Chapel.  Condolences and memories of Rich may be shared with his family at www.haysmemorial.com
