Vernon F. Riedel

Vernon F. Riedel, 73, Hays, died Friday, April 8, 2022 at Salina Regional Health Center.

He was born April 4, 1949 in Hays, the son of William and Mary (Lang) Riedel.  He was a graduate of Park High School.  On May 31, 1975 he was united in marriage to Jeanne Billinger in Victoria, and they were married nearly 47 years.  He worked as a custodian and in maintenance at Quinter Hospital, for USD 489 at Lincoln Elementary School, and St. John’s Nursing Home.  He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife Jeanne of Hays, a son: Aaron Riedel of Camdenton, MO, a daughter: Angie Sack and husband Jeff of Hays, two brothers: Leon Riedel and wife Marilyn of Salina and Myron Riedel and wife Rhonda of Wilsey, five sisters: Lois Albers and husband Charles, Marilyn Augustine and husband Arnie, and Elaine Sander and husband Kenny, all of Hays, Jeane Harp and husband Don of Council Grove, and Twila Riedel of Hays, two grandchildren: Jacob and Kimberly Sack, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant sister.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 am on Wednesday, April 13, 2022 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Fr. Richard Daise officiating.  Inurnment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 9:00 am until service time at the church.  Recitation of the rosary will be at 9:30 am.  Memorials are suggested to TMP-Marian High School, in care of Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home.  Condolences and memories of Vernon may be shared with the family at www.haysmemorial.com
