Donald M. Pfannenstiel, 63, Munjor, died Tuesday, December 15, 2015 at his home.

He was born January 7, 1952 in Cambridge, Nebraska the son of Melvin and Betty Lou (Rohr) Pfannenstiel.  After graduating High School and attending Fort Hays State University, he entered the U.S. Navy and served for over eight years in the U.S. Navy submarine force.  After his service in the Navy, he was a nuclear power engineer with Entergy Corporation in Louisiana for many years until returning home.  He was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Munjor, the third degree Knights of Columbus in Munjor, and the American Legion.  He enjoyed playing golf, working in his shop, and was very giving in donating to numerous organizations.  He was very smart and talented and learned to pilot hot air balloons and had a cabin at a deer camp in Louisiana. 

Survivors include his mother, Munjor, a sister Karen Mondero and husband John of Hays, a step brother Roger Loesch of Hays and a step sister Terri Rogers and husband Sandy of Newton, Kansas, aunts and uncles; Rene Chidester and husband Ken of Salt Lake City, UT, Lee Rohr of Munjor, Chuck Rohr of Mount Dora, FL, Al Rohr and wife Alice of Mission, TX, Mary Jo Braun and husband Marvin of Hays, a niece Jessica Albers and husband Bobby of Munjor, and nephews Matt Mondero of Oberlin, and Joe Mondero and wife Becca of Oberlin, and his canine companion, Mo.

He was preceded in death by his father Melvin in 1953, two aunts Claire Unrein and Calysta Rohr, and a nephew Lucas Mondero.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 am on Saturday, December 19, 2015 at the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Munjor.  Burial with military honors by the Hays VFW Honor Guard and Hays American Legion Riders will be in the St. Francis Cemetery.  Visitation will be on Friday from 6:00 until 8:00 pm and on Saturday from 9:00 am until 9:30, all at the Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, 1906 Pine Street.  A parish vigil will be at 7:00 pm followed by a Knights of Columbus rosary, all on Friday at the funeral home.  Memorials are suggested to St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, masses, or to the Wounded Warrior Project, in care of the funeral home.  Condolences may be left for the family at www.haysmemorial.com
