I just wanted to share a remembrance that I have of your mother. I am sure you do not know who I am, but I am an attorney practicing in Hays.
Back in the middle 1980’s, I started my own law practice and had decided to go on a vacation. My wife had been my secretary, and I knew Evelyn from her time working at the Hays State Bank (actually I had been the attorney for the Hays State Bank).
She agreed to run my office the week we were gone on vacation.
Though it was March, a very severe snow storm and cold spell swept through Hays. This was back before the days of cell phones.
After several days, I called the office to check in. Apparently the furnace had been out for a number of days, but there she sat in my office, freezing but unwilling to abandon her post. I am sure she did not feel comfortable ordering the furnace be repaired without my permission. I readily gave her the permission and she continued to work through the week.
I had seen her several times over the years and we always laughed about that moment.
I just always thought that spoke volumes of her; not willing to give up her post, even for someone she did not know all that well.
Please accept my condolences on the passing of your wonderful mother.

I was sorry to hear of the loss of your Mother. We lost Dad at 95 three years ago so I understand what this means to your family. The best condolence I can offer is she lived a wonderful life and raised some outstanding children, watching them into adulthood, then watching grandchildren. Celebrate her life to the fullest.
