What a fun, fun lady. Lois and Paul spent many, many hours with my mom and dad, and I always loved them both. Lois always had a smile and a laugh, and so interested in all of my family. I am sad to say, I never saw Lois after she moved from Hays, but her name came up this past Christmas season. I am thankful she is at peace, and who knows what she, Paul, Mom, and Dad are doing now. Linda, Leta, and Lana, you all are in my thoughts and prayers.

So sorry to hear of one of the passing of one of my very favorite teachers from my days in WaKeeney. Not every teacher leaves a lasting impression but Mrs. Wheeler certainly did. I was also a classmate of Linda back then. Our condolences to the family.

What a wonderful lady! She was so proud of her family. We became friends and spent time together in church. Our last contact was a belated card I sent for her birthday, and I'm thinking it may not have reached her in time. You remain in our thoughts and prayers. Gene and Jo Ann Fleharty

Dear Leta, Linda, and Lana. I'm hoping you remember me ( Lana will probably not since she was so young when you moved from Bird City). I popped pop corn at the movie theater and also was your babysitter in Bird City. You and your parents were special to me and I've never forgotten you. I was saddened to hear of your mother's death as well as your dad's several years ago. I just want you to know you are in my thoughts and prayers.

When I look back on growing up in WaKeeney, one of the greatest gifts was to have Mrs. Wheeler as a Girl Scout Leader, and a teacher at church. I was in Lana's class growing up, and Mrs. Wheeler was one of those mom's in our wonderful small town who was a MOM to all of us. The Wheeler house was not far from our house, and the second floor bedroom and playroom was a wonderful adventure. Mr. and Mrs. Wheeler were always so patient and kind. I remember a trinket hanging in your kitchen with each of your names on it, and when someone was in trouble, your name was moved to the "dog house" on the hanging trinket. I remember how much we were in awe of Lana's older sisters (Leta and Linda), and how we wanted to grow up to be as beautiful and popular as they were. I hope you three (Leta, Linda and Lana) will find some comfort in knowing that Mrs. Wheeler's kindness and influence live on through others. As a Mom myself, I do count your mom as one of the great examples of what I always wanted to be like. My thoughts are with you at the passing of wonderful Mrs. Wheeler. Lorra Tow Embers

I'm thinking of all of you: Leta, Linda and Lana and your families. I met Lois in the mid-60ies when I came to WaKeeney to teach Home Economics. It was a real pleasure knowing your Mom because she was always so positive and always smiling.Thought and prayers for all of you.
