Edwin E. Randa, 93, Hays, died Wednesday, April 8, 2015 Hays Medical Center.
He was born April 7, 1922 in Cordia, Kansas the son of Jacob and Katherine (Herrman) Randa. He was inducted into the U.S. Army during World War II on October 17, 1942 and went overseas, arriving in Scotland on February 28, 1944. While overseas he served in England, France, Luxembourg, Belgium, Germany, Holland, Austria, and Czechoslovakia and was honorably discharged on December 16, 1945. On May 13, 1946 he married Merilda Werth in Schoenchen, Kansas. She died November 25, 2008. He was a farmer and then worked in shipping and receiving at the Chase Brass and Copper warehouse in Denver. He was a member of the St. Nicholas of Myra Catholic Church, Hays.
He enjoyed playing cards, working in his garage, and keeping things organized.
Survivors include a daughter, Carolin Dreher and husband Wilfred, Stratton, CO, a half brother, Elmer Randa, WaKeeney, three half sisters, Mary Klaus of Schoenchen, Jenny Rebel and Berniece Holmes both of Ness City, a step sister, Mabel Schmidt of Hays, two grandchildren Julie Dreher and husband Stan Johnson, Johnstown, CO and Mark Dreher and wife Sherry of Vona, CO and five great grandchildren, Morgan Johnson, Jordan Johnson, Amanda Dreher, Matthew Dreher and Eric Dreher.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, three brothers, Sylvanus, Victor, and Richard Randa, a half brother, Gerald “Dick” Randa, and two step brothers, Eugene “Lefty” Werth and Severin Werth, three sisters, Bertha Munch, Sally Mills, and Leona Wagner and four step sisters, Loretta Dinges, Irene Herrman, Edna Dinges, and Eleanor Pfannenstiel.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 am on Saturday, April 11, 2015 at the St. Nicholas of Myra Catholic Church, 2901 E. 13th. Burial with military honors by the Hays VFW Post #9076 Honor Guard will be in the St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 pm until 7:00 on Friday and from 9:00 am until 10:15 Saturday, all at the Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, 1906 Pine.
