Frank K. Hosaka

Frank K. Hosaka, 79, Hays, died Thursday, January 2, 2014 at the Hays Medical Center.

He was born March 16, 1934 in Scottsbluff, NE the son of Roy and Tomo (Kichinae) Hosaka.  On May 28, 1960 he married Ikuyo “Cookie” Kazaoka in Scottsbluff.  He was a United States Air Force Veteran serving during the Korean War and was stationed all over the world.  He received the National Defense Medal while in the Air Force.  He graduated with a degree in computer programming while living in Denver, CO.  He worked for IBM and Sprint while living in Denver, he and his wife moved to Hays in 1970, and he retired after working for Midwest Energy for 35 years.  He was a member of the Hays City Sportmen’s Club, a former member of the Hays Jaycees, and loved fishing, hunting, shooting, working on cars, traveling, motorcycles, and spending time with his children and grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife Ikuyo “Cookie” Hosaka of the home in Hays, sons, Arthur (Lizabeth) Hosaka of Chicago, Illinois, and Kenneth (Chris) Hosaka of Atlanta, Georgia, a daughter Heidi Youtsey (Vincent Borowski, Jr.) of Denver, CO, a brother Woseley (Tomi) Hosaka of Paso Robles, CA, two sisters, Taka (John) Musashi of Otono, CA and Toshiko Nanbara of Gering, NE, seven grandchildren, two great grandchildren and ten nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents,  a sister, Kay Tanigawa and her husband George, a brother in law Ted Nanbara, a niece Jasmine Peak, and a grandson Nicholas Hosaka.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 am on Thursday, January 9, 2014 at the Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, 1906 Pine, with military honors by the Hays VFW Post #9076.  Visitation will be on Wednesday from 5:00 until 7:00 pm and on Thursday from 10:00 am until service time, all at the funeral home.  Memorials are suggested in Frank’s memory to the Wounded Warrior Project or to the American Heart Association, in care of the funeral home.  Condolences may be left for the family at www.haysmemorial.com
